Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, today ordered a magisterial investigation into the death of a mother-daughter duo in Kanpur Dehat during an anti-encroachment drive.
It will be in addition to the ongoing investigation by a Special Investigation Team, he said, adding that the truth about the incident will be revealed to the public in a transparent manner.
“The incident in Kanpur is tragic. An SIT team is already investigating. I’ve also requested a magisterial investigation “The chief minister took to Twitter.
The chief minister also shared a video clip of himself speaking with a private television channel.
In response to a question about the Monday evening incident in Kanpur Dehat district, Adityanath stated, “The matter is sensitive, and the truth of the incident will be presented to the people transparently.” He stated that everyone should wait for the results of the investigation.
Pramila Dixit (45) and her daughter Neha (20) were killed after allegedly setting themselves on fire in a hut in front of police, district administration, and revenue officials who had gone to Madauli village in the Rura area of the district to remove encroachments from “gramme samaj” land, according to police.
While opposition parties blamed the incident on the BJP government’s “arrogance of power” and “insensitivity,” Uttar Pradesh’s minister of state for women’s welfare Pratibha Shukla, who met with the bereaved family on Tuesday, blamed district officials.
Ms. Shukla stated that the chief minister asked her to visit the village and brief him on the situation.
The Samajwadi Party said on Wednesday that it would bring the incident up in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly’s Budget Session, which begins on Monday, in order to get justice for the victims.
Mayawati, the leader of the BSP, stated, “The BJP government’s ‘bulldozer politics’ are taking the lives of innocent poor people, which is tragic. The government should abandon its anti-people stance.” In the incident, police arrested 39 people, including a sub-divisional magistrate, four revenue officials, a police station head, and several other cops, on murder and other charges.
