Indians prefer Georgia over Ukraine for MBBS studies, RBI reports remittance increase
Indian students are increasingly choosing Georgia for MBBS studies, moving away from Ukraine due to the ongoing war. RBI data under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) shows $50.25 million sent to Georgia in 2024-25, nearly five times the $10.33 million in 2018-19. Ukraine’s remittances fell sharply to $2.40 million. Russia remains an alternative with $69.94 million sent. Georgia’s low fees, English instruction, secure environment, and proximity to Europe have made it a rising destination for Indian medical students.
