Days before the sinking of IRIS Dena, India granted permission for the Iranian ship IRIS Lavan to dock at Kochi port due to technical issues. This decision, made on March 1, allowed IRIS Lavan and its 183 crew members to safely shelter, avoiding the fate of IRIS Dena which was sunk by a US submarine.
